The other day I had one of those moments with Presley that makes me wish she would never grow up and that I could always be with her. Parents, I'm sure you know those moments.
We were deciding what dress Presley was going to wear to a wedding that we were going to attend over the weekend. After she decided which dress she wanted to wear, she started digging in her closet to find out what shoes (or sandals) she wanted to wear to the wedding. She picked out some sandals that she rarely wears because they are slippery where she puts her feet, and it causes her to have trouble playing. After she remembered this, she got up and found some socks to put on under the sandals, and then she sat back down and started putting on her socks and sandals. That is when this conversation took place:
P1: Daddy, are these socks fancy?
(I’ve never heard her use that word before, so I was stunned in a “that’s hilarious” kind of way.)
Me: Um, no, not really Presley.
P1: I think they are fancy because they have these curly things at the top. (See Exhibit ‘A’)
Me: Let me see. (I looked at them.) You know what, Presley I think those socks ARE fancy, but you aren’t supposed to wear socks with sandals.
P1: But they match.
Me: Those socks don’t match those sandals.
P1: Yes they do. They are both fancy.
Me: Presley, you’re right. Those socks and sandals are both fancy. (See Exhibit ‘B’)
