Sick Day?

Several students in Presley and Paxten's school have been sick lately, so when Presley told us that she did not feel well this morning, I believed her; however, the more I talked to her, the more I doubted it. See Exhibits "A," "B," & "C."

Exhibit "A":
P1:  Daddy, I don't feel well.
Me:  You don't? Oh no! What's wrong baby girl?
P1:  I don't feel well. I feel like all I want to eat is snacks and juice.
Me:  Well I actually have donuts and hot dogs (pigs in a blanket) for breakfast, can you eat that?
P1:  No. I only can have a snack and juice.
Me:  Do you know what kind of snack you can have?
P1:  Yes.
Me:  Do we have this snack here?
P1:  Yes.
Me:  What is it?
P1:  (with a pouting "I'm-sick-face") Cheetos.
Me:  HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! ! !
(At this point Presley started coughing, and then crying. I think I hurt her feelings, but it cracked me up. I quickly picked her up and she put her head on my shoulder and stopped crying.)
Me:  Presley, what's wrong? (She didn't have fever) Does your throat hurt?
P1:  No.
Me:  Does your stomach hurt?
P1:  No.
Me:  Are you tired?
P1:  No.
Me:  Hmmmmmmm.

Lora was working from home today, so we let Presley stay home, but in her defense, she was lethargic, and it seemed like something was bothering her. After she ate some Cheese-Its Crackers, (she calls them "Cheetos") she said she wanted to go to her room and read her books with her LeapFrog Tag Reader.
Two hours later, Presley came down stairs and decided she wanted the donuts to eat, and she started coloring.
Me:  Presley, were you really sick or did you just want to stay home from school?
P1:  Well, I'm not sick anymore.
Me:  You feel better already?
P1:  Yeah, I feel better because I read all of those books. I think they were magical.
Me:  Ha ha ha! Presley, you're cute, and I love you. Do you really think they were magical or are you just being silly.
P1:  They were magical.
Me:  Well, I'm glad you're feeling better.

I love my happy "sick" girl.

  1. I just love your blog. Today's post is sweetly hilarious. I can actually remember faking sickness to stay home occasionally. Presley is precious.... And that is a very good drawing she made, BTW.

  2. And.... thinking that books are "magical" at age 4, ensures a lifetime treasure trove for her. You guys are GREAT parents!!!!
