"I'm Not Going To Be Your Friend Anymore!"

I'm sure we've all heard those words before from preschoolers. I've heard them from Presley a few times when she is playing by herself.  She'll make one of her princesses say it to another princess, and it always makes me laugh, but it also makes me realize how much stuff she picks up at school that we aren't aware of.  I can't believe kids are already saying, "I'm not going to be your friend anymore" at the age of 3-5?  It makes you wonder if the kids came up with it on their own or if one kid's parents told them to say it to a bully, and it got passed down.  Anyway, Presley has never said it in front of us, but the way she acts when she is playing dolls, makes me assume that she's said it before to someone in school.  For the record, we don't like it, and if she says it in front of us, she'll get in trouble and be told not to say it to people.
Now  you have a back ground.  The following conversation took place the other night when the four of us were all upstairs.  Presley and Paxten were playing together like they've started doing more and more, and Lora and I were just sitting around while they were playing talking about the day's events.

P1:  No Paxten!  It's my Cinderella!
Lora:  Presley, you share with her.
P1:  But it's mine!
Me:  Presley, it is both of yours.  You share with her.  You have 8 princesses, she can play with that one.
P1:  No!
Lora:  Presley, you let her see that or we're going to take all of them away from you.
P1:  I don't want to.
Lora:  Presley, I'm going to count to 3, and if you don't give one of the princesses to Paxten, we're taking all of them away from you..... ONE.....
(Presley gives it to Paxten.)
Lora:  Thank you Presley.
P1:  I'm not going to be your daughter any more!

The problem with this was that it made me laugh out loud, which made Presley laugh out loud.  Lora didn't hear it, so I had to repeat it to her.  Lora didn't think it was funny, and well technically it wasn't funny, and Presley should not be saying that, but it made me laugh at her adaptation of "I'm not going to be your friend anymore."  We told Presley she wasn't in trouble, but that she better not ever tell that to mommy or daddy again or she would be in trouble.  She understood and continued sharing and playing with Paxten the rest of the evening.
That moment right there is why I started this blog.  A simple conversation on a Monday night that probably would have been forgotten had I not blogged about it, but is definitely worth documenting and remembering.  It was a good moment sitting up there trying to figure out life while our girls played with each other.  I love my family.
